Fostering

Fostering a Carolina Dog

Thank you for your interest in fostering an at-risk Carolina Dog. Here are some common questions.

What do I need to do as a foster?

You may be receiving a pup that has not been house trained or doesn’t know good manners. You will need to show them how to be a good family member. This may include house training, crate training, dealing with separation anxiety, or showing a pup that humans can be kind. You also need to transport the pup to vet visits, so need reliable transportation.

Is this a job?

Our rescue does not have any paid staff; we are all volunteers. Fosters volunteer their time, showing their foster dog attention, providing exercise, and teaching them how to fit in a family. This may include socializing a dog that has never walked on a leash.

What kind of environment do I need?

The dog must live indoors in a climate controlled environment, and be kept indoors when you are away. You cannot leave the dog for more than 9 hours in a day. If you have other furry family members, we need a video or virtual meeting during which we can observe how your other pets behave around strange dogs. We want the fostering go smoothly for everyone.

Where does the American Dingo Society operate?

We are a foster-based rescue, with dogs living in private homes across the United States. We transport across the country.
